What are the Categories of Disney World Resorts?

Staying at Disney World can help you extend the magic beyond your park days but with so many options to choose from, it can be overwhelming to decide what makes the most sense for you and your crew.

Disney World Categories

There are three levels or categories of Disney World resorts, value, moderate, and deluxe.

Value Resorts

Value resorts are the most economical choice. They are more similar to a motel-style but still include the Disney magic. The most economical option is typically the All-Star Resorts, which are themed music, movies, and sports. They each have theme pools and amenities. Pop Century and Art of Animation are also considered value resorts. These two are a bit more expensive because they are on the Skyliner route for Epcot and Hollywood Studios. These are great for groups looking to stay on property to get the free transportation, parking, and early entry but want a more economical option.

Moderate Resorts

Moderate resorts are a great option for folks who want a few more amenities but don't have the budget for a deluxe resort. They include upgraded dining options and more elaborate pools. Most of them access the parks by buses, however the Caribbean Beach Resort is on the Skyliner.

Deluxe Resorts

Deluxe resorts are the most expensive option but offer the most amenities. Animal Kingdom Lodge has rooms with views of their Savanna featuring live animals. Several deluxe resorts are walking distance to Epcot and Hollywood Studios which saves the hassle of waiting for transportation to start and finish your day. Many of the deluxe resorts are also on the monorail line to Epcot and Magic Kingdom. Deluxe resorts also periodically offer extended evening hours to certain parks on certain nights (typically announced 60 days in advance and is different from the ticketed After Hours event).

Other options for accommodations for your Disney World vacation include campsite options, nearby "Good Neighbor" hotels, and premium villas at deluxe resorts. If you're dreaming of a Disney vacation but aren't sure where to start, I can help you determine which hotel is right for you and your crew.
